Any designers out there who might be interested in getting involved in the design of fair trade artisan products might want to check this out:
Designers are invited to support the objectives of Eco Design Lab an organisation that is funded by Discovered In to help incubate artisan based worker cooperatives in the poor communities of developing nations such as Brazil. The projects will be delivered by local NGOs to provide affordable workspace, skills training, business education and financial support.People in poor communities do not have access to information about fashion and design trends, so often make elaborate handcrafted products that are not highly valued. To solve the dilemma designers are invited to register with Eco Design Lab and receive monthly design briefs. Designs can then be submitted for review and voting on the website and winning designs will be produced. The designers receive a royalty on the sales of the items.
Products designed for Eco Design Lab will be produced in the
communities and distributed internationally under the Tiptoe brand name
by Discovered In.
Eco Design Lab its sister site, does seem to be in transition at the moment though, so I’m not sure if they are taking submissions at the moment?
