Serendipity on the Web

I follow closely trends on the internet and am fascinated by the emergence of social network sites. Most people are familiar with Myspace, which I’m not a big fan of, but I am very keen on a social network/bookmarking service called Stumbleupon.Stumbleupon is based on the principle of serendipity. You stumble almost from website to website, rather then search for a specific site. A lot of tech people don’t get this. They have an efficiency mindset. They wonder why you would search for something in this roundabout manner. Surely its easier to search directly for websites.I think, this ignores the lessons of the Art world. I would say alot of art is created in a circuitous almost accidental manner. People make connections, a mistake can often be an inspiration, not everything is predetermined. It takes a little while to get used to stumbleupon, but once you do, the surprises it yields can be inspiring. I’m going to highlight some of the art I find on this site over the coming weeks.
